Why do the reviewers hate this???
By RLFe2 | on Friday, November 13, 2020
Our GX 460 is simply perfect. I read review after review telling us how out dated the SUV is, it doesn't have apple play or android music, it doesn't get great gas mileage, its expensive and it's just old. Then very quietly as if it were an afterthought.... oh yeah, it is completely reliable and will last forever. They compare it to unibody SUVs when talking about gas mileage and are cheaper. But they cant pull. They will tell you that two other luxury SUVs will pull more but they cost 25 to 40k more. But in doing so they wont say that the best of those only have 75% reliability rating (except the RX but it only can tow 3500lbs). We recently drove this car on 3100 mile trip through the Rockies, the Arizona desert and back to the fields of Kansas. I ride the gas pretty hard and still got a combined 18.8 mpg. I would highly recommend this SUV.… - 5.0
This Lexus GX does it all
By Old Boat | on Monday, June 21, 2021
This is my 3rd GX, needless to say I really like the vehicle. It does it all under any condition. A lot of the information I write about was also gleaned from my last 2 GX’s as well. I find it to be a great road trip car, except for the gas mileage. I wish that were a little better. I just got back from a 2,735 mile trip to FL and from the time I left until I returned I got 19.4 miles overall. I didn’t buy it for the mileage. If someone is that concerned about mileage they should not get a GX, get a Prius. However If you want a car that gives an excellent view of the road this is the one. Maybe because it is new but my mileage on my past 2 GX’x usually was about 21mpg on trips. We don’t travel with children so I can’t speak about hauling capacity for a family of 4, but for the 2 of us and our 3 dogs (and their crates) it meets our needs and then some. As for hauling, I tow my antique Chris Craft with no issue, it weighs almost 4,500lbs with trailer. My brother tows his 23’ Nautique with his GX. I read another review that complained about no remote start. I don’t know if he has a learning disability but my remote start works just fine with my Lexus app OR my key fob. Same as my other GX’s in the past. I will admit that after 12 months there is a yearly fee for that capability. Speaking of the Lexus app, I like the ability of entering an address in the app and then it synchronizes with the Navigation system in the car. It’s my understanding that capability doesn’t expire. I’ll know more about that next year. I also read reviews about the passenger side mirror not folding. Mine folds in just fine. Some do not like the swing open rear door, get used to it or don’t buy the car. I would prefer the standard opening but it isn’t the end of the world. On the plus side it does make it easier to access the roof rack if you utilize that capability. As for road noise, I don’t have it. Never did on the other ones either If you are into the latest tech stuff you will be disappointed. The GX has tried and true tech, no big learning curve. Personally I want a car I can count on for the long haul, not one that will take a computer genius to repair once the warranty is over. As for value in an SUV, this is hard to beat. My 5 year old GX gave me almost 60% of my purchase price trade-in value for this new one. This vehicle probably won’t check all the boxes in someone’s list of “Wants”, but I think it is the best vehicle for the money. I considered other SUV’s, namely the MDX but it doesn’t do what this one does for MY needs. By the way, I have the Premium model.… - 5.0
Plan to drive this SUV for many years
By Satoshi | on Wednesday, September 15, 2021
Was looking for a 3 row SUV that could tow 6500 pounds. Not many options out there as most are now unibody and they top at 5000 lbs. The old school design is a plus for me. No turbos etc. will translate into many years of reliable service. This is much more important to me than the latest infotainment. Was concerned about fuel efficiency but in real life I get over 20 mpg in combined driving- pleasantly surprised! Full time 4 wheel drive will come handy on winter roads. Lexus reliability is unmatched.…
